The first 'National Tartan' was produced in 1863 by the 'National
Associates of Scottish Woollen Manufacturers'. This
association no longer exists. However Lochcarron weavers
felt it would be fitting to produce an adaptation of the original
'National' tartan to welcome the new millennium and bring the tartan
into the 21st century. McCalls also felt it was a fitting
tartan to help us all celebrate this new millennium.
The New National Millennium Tartan is available in a large range of
products for hire and purchase. We introduced the tartan in
1999 and it has proven to be very popular for weddings, graduations and
other formal events.
